Only
a few hours drive south of the US border you will find what used
to be the sleepy little village of Mata Ortiz. It is now at the
center of a whirlwind that is helping to drive the economy of
the entire northern region of Chihuahua. That whirlwind is the
wonderful and unique pottery of Mata Ortiz (sometimes inaccurately
called Casas Grandes pottery, which is the prehistoric pottery
of the area).
Juan Quezada, the most humble of human beings, is responsible
for the entire movement that has grown from his childhood fascination.
