The villagers continue to find new sources of clay in various natural colors: red, white, brown, black and even a light shade of purple. The minerals they utilize to paint the pots before firing are natural as well.

I love Juan's story of how he found just the right paint brush for the intricate designs that keep improving over the years. He began by trying the hair of wild animals such as deer, squirrels and rabbits, various plant materials and bird feathers, but wasn't happy with the results.
