The legendary founder of the Inca Dynasty was Manco Cápac. Although much of the history is jumbled around the events of his life, there is one legend that he was brought up from the depths of Lake Titicaca by the sun god Inti.

There are still indigenous families that live on Uros, or reed islands in the Lake. You'll have a chance to visit them and perhaps catch a ride on their preferred travel vessel as well.

You may also visit other large islands such as Taquile in the middle of the lake. The people there are known for their textiles with intricate woven and knitted designs.
